Mission and Vision

1.Origin

A column in the New York Times in 2012 wrote that the era of "big data" has arrived. In business, economics and other fields, decisions will increasingly be made based on data and analysis rather than experience and intuition. Big data must be statistically, compared, and analyzed by computers to obtain objective results. The United States began working on big data in 2012, and Obama invested US$200 million in the development of big data in the same year, emphasizing that big data will be the future oil. The emergence of big data has increased the professional demand for data science and information management. Software AG, Oracle, IBM, Microsoft, SAP, EMC, HP and Dell have invested more than 15 billion US dollars in many big data-related majors. In 2010, the market value of the data management and analysis industry exceeded US$100 billion and was growing at an annual rate of nearly 10%, which is twice the growth rate of the entire software industry.

2. Big Data Research Center Introduction

Based on the demand for big data analysis, our team promotes the establishment of the ‘Big Data Research Center’. It is expected to anchor the core goals of thematic research, talent cultivation, industry-academia cooperation, innovation and entrepreneurship, social responsibility, and international contributions, and implement six schemes.

(1) Work Goals

  1. Advocate related thematic research on big data analysis and accumulate scientific research energy.
  2. Improve the development and cultivation of big data analysis talents.
  3. Link industry-government-academic-research cooperation, promote technology transfer and industrial upgrading, and become a platform for integrating and sharing emerging technologies.
  4. Incubate start-up teams to achieve innovative entrepreneurship (Spin-off) or join outstanding domestic enterprises to enhance industrial technology (Spin-in) benefits.
  5. Share the knowledge, experience, and results of the integration of cross-disciplinary professional big data analysis.
  6. Join the International Association of Big Data Analysis and actively host international academic seminars.

(2) Center Features

  1. It has a cross-disciplinary professional research team at home and abroad, has deep R&D energy, and carries out localized and international research cooperation.
  2. It has international standard teaching quality assurance and learning effectiveness mechanisms (for example: AACSB, IEET). And the experience of cross-disciplinary and cross-college related credit programs provides a distinctive big data program to build a good talent cultivation environment.
  3. It has the experience of linking and integrating various resources of industry, government, academia, and research, thereby promoting research cooperation between local and central governments, research institutions, and industries and shaping international recognition.
  4. It has a wealth of big data sources such as EasyCard, Tax Data Center, Health Insurance Data, Compilation Center, Government Open Data, and many private companies.
  5. It has sufficient resources such as software, hardware, and R&D required space.
  6. Participate in important international organizations and have rich experience in hosting international seminars, which can link research results with international standards.
